First and foremost...the whole show rocked, not just the second set. I wasn't there, but downloaded it, and it sounds like they were REALLY trying to show off on the second set and make everyone have a good time. All the songs have so much energy, and even through the download I can here how hard they're trying, especially Joel and Kris. The whole show rocks. Totally unique idea and I'm sure no one there even realized what was going on until like Spires or something like that. Be happy you heard an Umphrey's one in a lifetime...idiots. (Those who didn't like hearing repeat songs over the two days).

there's no reason to complain about song repeats or playing an entire album. for bands like umphreys it should be more about how they play than what they play. you probably can't find a song repeated two shows in a row for the past five years or so. it happened here because they wanted to play the whole album. its just one song and a good one, get over it.

It is also an asshole who tells people what the "right reasons" are to be into something. And I am over it...I just left my opinion. You are the one who can't let go (and apparently won't until we ALL agree with your opinion). If you are lucky enough to be reviewed one day as a musician, I am going to strongly suggest you don't read what they have to say. You will probably explode. I promise you no member of Umphrey's could give a shit that I was disappointed that they repeated a song. I still love the band like no other...but it's OK to not agree with everything they do. Guess what?...they often play a song and the jam never takes off...and I find that disappointing...but I don't try and make the world agree with me...or call them assholes for disagreeing.

I think the album play through's chill so I'm cool with seeing 1348 two nights in a row for that very reason.They had to get some Mantis out on Saturday for those who didn't attend Friday's show otherwise those peeps would be pissed to not hear any Mantis. What's more concerning is hearing a Snucka encore at every other show you attend, etc. I'd track phantasytour stats for setlist creation to keep the UMphreaks at bay.

Sorry to hear if my harsh words hurt you. my opinion comes not from the elitist music fan's opinion that ruins the legitimacy of debate on such forums, but from a musician that, as a member of a cohesive 5-piece band knows that playing a song two times in a row doesn't mean anything, especially not that the fans of the music are being jipped. bottom line: get over it. if you like a band for their style and their musicianship you'll like hearing something more than once. if you like it specifically for a song here or there you're not really in it for the right reasons.

I didn't go to this show, but I think everyone that is pissed about a repeated song is just idiotic. Everyone would be lucky to be there when UM plays Mantis in its entirety. With an album so good from a band so good, what does it matter that they repeat a song or two? All you are doing by bitching about it is telling UM you don't want them to do things like this for their fans. Assholes.

AWESOME! It's wonderful that they played Mantis from start to finish. I was hoping they would do this at some point and I'm so excited that they did it! Everything I've heard is awesome! Keep up the great work guys! Excellent, excellent stuff!

All i can say is Amazing.. these two nokia shows were awesome... And yea they repeated two songs, but who cares... They are promoting the new album so I'm sure they know not everyone went both nights, so they played a few mantis songs on saturday after playing the whole thing on friday.. big whoop. Umphreys tore the house down both nights.

i completely agree with charliehustle. i was at both nights, and even before saturday, i wasn't too psyched about this show. first set was decent (wappy was good, and miss tinkles was decent (average version), but the entire mantis album? c'mon. and then to repeat 1348 and mantis the next night at the same venue? what the fart? i felt like i was back on phish tour seeing back on the train for the third time in four shows...not cool. the next night was a MUCH better show...but was still not "epic." all in all, i was a little disappointed with the two nights in NYC. i had a good time, but they didn't blow me away. PS - i do NOT like the tone on that green/blue guitar that jake used for the entire first night and the first two or three nights of saturday. sounded distorted and didn't have his trademark clean sound...i though it was me, but as soon as he switched it was 100x better.

I know what i could ask for...Umphrey's to not play the same stuff two nights in a row...especially at the same venue. Why Umphrey's why?

Umphrey's is the best band out there right now, evidenced by this pure liquid fire show. I liked Mantis studio version, but these songs live translate so unbelievably well. They all mesh together incredibly as well. Amazing Miss Tinkle's and the improv deserves a spot on the next Jimmy Stewart album. Comfortably Numb encore, what more can you ask for?!
